25th Mar, Orion 15, Epping Forest

An excellent club turnout for the 52nd year of this race. Grant went off course last year but this time it was Richard's turn whilst out in front just after the 9 mile point. The men easily retained their team title with 3 scorers in 7 - and not to be outdone the women matched that feat despite Lydia originally being shown in the results as running for Bishops Stortford. Her run was a particularly gutsy performance over the tough but relatively dry course - it can be knee deep mud in wetter winters.
2 Grant Ramsey 1:33:31, 4 Richard McCormick 1:35:36 1st V40, 7 James Taylor 1:39:39, 21 Phil Cunningham (SBH) 1:47:06, 34 Mel Parker 1:52:13, 55 John Murphy 1:56:04, 58 Karen Murphy 1:56:55 2nd lady, 78 Steve Allen 2:00:40, 86 Helen Hoyle 2:02:26 5th lady - 1st unplaced V35, 97 Eddie King 2:04:45, 102 Lydia Bruce-Burgess 2:05:51 7th lady

18th Feb, Y Llethr race, Llanbedr - 14.25 miles (Cat BL) This is a real gem of a long winter fell race although there was no snow on top this year. Splendid views throughout on a sunny day although it's not always easy to appreciate them during a race. Managed to trim a massive 14-plus minutes off my time last year to finish in a respectable 25th out of 45 having been inside the top 20 at the summit - still practising the downhill bits!

16th Nov, Stevenage 5k Series (and County Champs) A lot of people were caught out by the race filling well before the closing date and missed running in this popular series - see my note elsewhere in this magazine. Obviously safety had been taken in to account - I don't know how many entries were accepted but only 204 finished compared with 330 in the first race of the series in 2004. To be honest the smaller field and changes to the start and finish made this a far better race to compete in if you got in! Splendid performances from Ben Smith and particularly Jim Neville - county champion in the V60 category on his return to competitive action after plenty of injury troubles.
18 James Taylor 17:25, 49 Ben Smith 18:51 (4th Junior), 70 Steve Allen 19:35 (21st V40), 97 Jim Neville 20:55 (1st V60), 135 Zanthe Wray 23:06 (4th female Junior)
