Feb 2007

24 Feb, Inter-Counties Cross Country, Woollaton Park, Nottingham In my opinion probably the best quality race on the Cross country calender. It was good to see 4 Barnet & District athletes representing the county of Hertfordshire, and excellent performances were provided by all four. In the U13 girls race Kate Barber improved on her 110th place last year to gain 40th place and 2nd Herts scorer in a very competetive age group. Katherine Henderson was 121st in the U20 ladies race. Richard Gamble was 104th in the Senior mens race, with Grant Ramsey running as well in the UK Cross Challenge category in the same race (203rd) - and 4th overall at the end of the series! By far the best performance from a Barnet athlete was Ben Nagy's 22nd place (2nd Herts) with a time of 22m 45s compared to the winners time of 21m 33s. The team gained an excellent silver medal. Well done Ben, and in fact to all 4 of you well done in running for your county. Jim Neville

10 Feb, London City Runner Metropolitan League. Perivale

Mud, mud all the way. Everyone was covered with the stuff. Catherine had a good race and was chased hard by Lydia for the whole race. It was perhaps ironic that the longest race in this series was also the hardest, due to the wet course caused by the recently melted snow.

I had hoped that we would be able to field a full team for this final fixture, but it was not to be. We had some good performances particularly the two Richards. R Mc would have taken the leading Vet award (if there had been one) by being placed in all five races in that category. He was placed 1st twice, 2nd twice and a 3rd. Steve Allen was our only other member to compete in all five races.

9 Dec, London Champs, Parliament Hill

On a bright but cold day a completely new course was used. The women did two large laps totalling 6K and the men did two small laps followed by two large for a distance of 10K. Our only competitor in the womens' race, Catherine who just missed the start, but she stated "I thought I had my best run of the season to date". She moved steadily through the field for the whole race. The men also were, "thin on the ground" just finishing a team of four!
