The Jack Petchey Award Scheme
- WINNERS
The Jack Petchey award scheme is very popular and
widely used. Over 1000 schools and clubs run the scheme. Over £2
million is allocated to this scheme every year. Participating clubs
select 1 young person (age 11-25) to receive an achievement award
each quarter. The winner receives a framed certificate and sum of
money (in our case, £600) to be spent according the recipient choice.
The money must be spent on the club, not the individual. Examples
of purchases include new tracksuits for team members, new equipment
for the club, or any item that the recipient feels will benefit
the club.

Alex Horton aged 21 is the
June recipient of the Jack Petchey award. Alex has been a member
of the club for probably more years than he would care to remember.
Indeed, many of Jim Neville's famous stories begin ' I remember
when young Alex Horton……' A popular chap, we didn't actually
hear him speak until he was 17, but it was worth the wait! Now
flying the flag as Notts Uni cross country captain, Alex has
competed for both Barnet and his university over the past few
years. His dedication to training has given some impressive
results, particularly at the recent Guernsey Easter Runs. Well
done Alex! |

Jack Morris aged 15 is the
fourth recipient of the Jack Petchey award. Jack has been chosen
for the award due to his positive attitude to both training
and racing. Jack competed in all of the NWLL cross country races
as well as the Southern and National cross country, one of only
a handful of young athletes who made the long trip to Alton
Towers. On the track, Jack has competed over the 100m this year
and plans on racing the 400m too. Chi Kin Tsang who recently
took Jack for a speed session at Lea Valley described Jack as
a 'quick learner and very hard worker'. Well done Jack! |

of Barnet for a number of years and has been one of the most
consistent trainers. He has competed for the club in XC, track
and road races, recently making the step up to compete for the
senior mens team. During a time period when most youngsters
give up athletics to pursue other interests, Ben has remained
a committed and enthusiastic member of the team. Ben is soon
to receive the £600 grant which he can use to purchase equipment
for the club of his choice. Well done Ben! |
